Separate Blogs For Us

We came in together, but the time has come to be seen as individuals. Cora is going off to Illinois to stay with a foster family. So this is our last entry together. Please visit our indivisual blogs to keep up with our progress and hopefully we will do something that you'll like enough to want to adopt us. Thanks for stopping by. Nate

I'm Nate and I'm Cora

That's me, Nate in the front. Cora is a bit camera shy.

I'd Like to Introduce Myself. I'm Cora

Nate and I were found together. I can't tell you exactly our relationship, brother sister, husband and wife or cousins. But I can tell you that together we make a great team. Right now, I may not look my best because I'm scared and don't know what's happening to us. Nate found this really nice lady that has taken us into her home and give us a warm place to sleep and good food to eat. I'm just a little more timid than Nate. So posing for pictures wasn't the most favorite thing I like to do. The flash scares me. I need someone to reinsure me that I'm okay and nothing will hurt me. To love me and help me build up my self confidence. Now, granite, it's only been a few days, but I'm really going to try to be less afraid. I do like kids and them loving on me. Did you see the pictures of the little ones snuggling me. That was so nice. Well, anyways, here are my pictures.HI!

I'm a little camera shy.

I do like being petted.
And what dog doesn't like a good belly rub.

I'd Like to Introduce Myself

My name is now Nate. I was a stray that wandered into the life of a wonderful lady with my partner, Cora. She has taken us in temporarily, but we need a foster home or better yet a forever home. Ideally, would be to stay with Cora. We work well as a team. Here are some of the pictures I posed for today. The weather was cold and yucky so these were taken in the basement. Not the best lighting, but my handsomeness shines through regardless.

Maybe she won't see me.

All these pictures are getting me a little tired.

Nice comfy blanket to rest on.

I'm pooped out and ready to relax.

Come Get To Know Us

The home that the dogs are staying at for now has this to say about them.
"Both dogs are very lovable.
The female is very submissive, and will crawl up to you and sit or lay down by your side.
She'll give hugs, or bury her head in your lap.
She's very soft spoken, and loves for you to stroke her head. It's soothing for her..
She'll also curl up in a little ball when she's scared!
But she's a different dog when she's outside. I'm guessing that her previous owner put both dogs together, so she could train her mate for hunting. He seems to follow her moves.

The male is very friendly too. He is a little bit more awkward and clumsy than her, but that's probably because he's younger. He sometimes acts like a puppy!
He loves affection too, but seems to bounce around a lot more.
He's a fast learner, and seems to listen and watch the female.

He is not completely housebroken.
He doesn't go in the house because he has to.
In fact,he'll wait by the door when he has to go out to eliminate.
But there's been a few times that he's hiked up his leg in our house. It's been in places where our other dogs have previously urinated, so I think he's just marking his territory.
I think that this can be corrected quickly in a new home, and it will help after he's been neutered.
Outside, he still squats down to tinkle like a puppy sometimes.
Not always.. But it looks funny when he does this because he's so big!

Both dogs really loved being with my nieces while they were here.
The girls slept with the dogs in our basement, and they all curled up together on a big blanket. My nieces left this morning, and they were crying because they didn't want to leave them.
They told my sister that they would make her bed for a week if they could keep the dogs, and they wouldn't eat any more candy!
Needless to say- my sister is gone, and the dogs are still here with me..

I'm guessing that the male is about 1 year old, and weighs about 55 lbs.
The female appears to be about 2 years old, and weighs about 45lbs.
This is just a guess, and needs to be confirmed by a vet.

In the week that I've had them, the dogs have seen all different types of weather here.
Wind, cold, sun, rain, mud, and snow. They haven't had any problems with any of it, and always want to go outside!
Even though I have a fenced in yard, I still go outside with them and watch them.
Once they hear a bird or squirrel on the other side of the fence, they go nuts!
Their hunting instincts kick in, and they focus on whatever they are looking at.
They point with their tails out, and they look like they could be in an advertisement for a hunting magazine!
They get so excited, that I worry about them jumping over our fence!
It's never happened before, but these dogs have a lot of spring to them... I worry!
This is something that needs to be considered when adopting them to a new family.
They will run off quickly if they spot something in the woods, and they'll need to be contained in their new home."

Come back soon, we'll have more pictures of each of us.

Homes Needed

Nate and Cora are beautiful English Setter's in need of a foster home or forever homes. They are both young, maybe a year or two. The person that found them says this about them. "I do know that they are both extremely friendly, and obedient. Some lucky person will have some great dogs!"

If you can foster one or both of them, please contact Illinois Birddog Rescue.
